Traditionally dubbed the ‘Dark Side,’ Dartmouth was once considered a somewhat unsavoury bedroom community found across the harbour from Halifax. Thankfully, this defamatory reputation is no longer associated with the now vibrant, bustling community. Today, Dartmouth boasts some of the most desirable and sought-after restaurants, spas, boutique shops, and nightlife within the Halifax Regional Municipality. The recent success of this area can be directly attributed to the determined and entrepreneurial nature of many young community members who demonstrated an unwavering dedication to creating a ‘new’ Dartmouth. These entrepreneurs include the owners of Brightwood Brewery, Lake City Cider, and The Watch That Ends the Night. Peter Braithwaite Studio (PBS) had the fortunate opportunity to collaborate with these dedicated individuals during the development of their respective visions.

Brightwood Brewery and Lake City Cider are now considered pioneering establishments behind the current Portland Street phenomenon. Acting as both architect and builder, PBS supported and facilitated the development of both spaces.
