PH1 Studio

Faced with the demolition of our former studio to make way for new development, Peter Braithwaite Studio (PBS) undertook the relocation of our office within Halifax’s North End, remaining rooted in the neighbourhood that has long supported our practice. Unlike our previous studio, which occupied a nineteenth-century industrial heritage building, the new space was a residential structure located just a few blocks away.

Executing both the design and construction in-house, PBS transformed the residential interior into a functional and collaborative studio environment tailored to the evolving needs of our practice. The existing structure guided the spatial organization while introducing modifications to support studio workflows, meetings, and model-building tasks.

Material reuse played a central role in the project. Key elements from our former office, including custom millwork, cabinets, and metal shelving, were carefully dismantled, relocated, and reintegrated into the new studio. This approach not only reduced material waste, but also carried forward the memory of our previous space.
